(3) विष्णु पुराण :- तीसरा पुराण हैं विष्णुपुराण, जिसमें छः अँश तथा तेइस हजार श्र्लोक हैं, इस ग्रंथ में भगवान् श्री विष्णुजी, बालक ध्रुवजी तथा कृष्णावतार की कथायें संकलित हैं, इस के अतिरिक्त सम्राट पृथुजी की कथा भी शामिल है, जिसके कारण हमारी धरती का नाम पृथ्वी पडा था, इस पुराण में सू्र्यवँशीयों तथा चन्द्रवँशीयों राजाओं का सम्पूर्ण इतिहास है।
उत्तरं यत्समुद्रस्य हिमाद्रेश्चैव दक्षिणम्।
वर्षं तद भारतं नाम भारती यत्र सन्ततिः।।
भारत की राष्ट्रीय पहचान सदियों पुरानी है, जिसका प्रमाण विष्णु पुराण के इस श्लोक में मिलता है, साधारण शब्दों में इस का अर्थ होता है कि वह भूगौलिक क्षेत्र जो उत्तर में हिमालय तथा दक्षिण में सागर से जो घिरा हुआ है, यही भारत देश है तथा उस में निवास करने वाले हम सभी जन भारत देश की ही संतान हैं, भारत देश और भारत वासियों की इस से स्पष्ट पहचान और क्या हो सकती है? विष्णु पुराण वास्तव में ऐक ऐतिहासिक ग्रंथ है।

The third Purana is Vishnupuran, which has six parts and twenty three thousand verses, in this book the stories of Lord Shri Vishnuji, child Dhruvaji and Krishnavatar are compiled, apart from this the story of Emperor Prithuji is also included, due to which the name of our earth was named Prithvi.
