Afghanistan Update Afghan Anti-taliban Resistance-Force NorthernAlliance: Despite the strong Taliban offensive and collapse of the Afghanistan government, a resistance group leading Ahmad Massoud, Son Of Ahmad Shah Massoud, Amrullah Saleh, Abdul Rashid Dostum, is already starting to form in the Panjshir province of northeast Afghanistan, once a stronghold of the Northern Alliance. Panjshir is the one province in Afghanistan that did not fall to the Taliban in their sweeping offensive as U.S. and NATO coalition troops carried out their withdrawal this summer.
Ahmad Massoud, Son Of Ahmad Shah Massoud asked help from US, he wrote in opinion pages of the Washington Post earlier this week to petition for U.S. aid.
“I write from the Panjshir Valley today, ready to follow in my father’s footsteps, with mujahideen fighters who are prepared to once again take on the Taliban,” he wrote. “We have stores of ammunition and arms that we have patiently collected since my father’s time, because we knew this day might come.”
